Popular team mascot expands responsibilities ahead of DBR’s racing debut while retaining existing mascot duties
Dutch Brothers Racing (DBR) today announced the promotion of team mascot Jagger to Chief Mischief Officer (CMO), effective immediately.
Jagger will retain his existing responsibilities as official team mascot while assuming an expanded portfolio covering mischief, morale, unnecessary intervention and the general supervision of matters for which no supervision was requested.
The appointment formalizes a role Jagger has, in practice, been performing for some time.
“Jagger has consistently demonstrated an ability to insert himself into situations where his involvement adds absolutely no operational value,” said Jon De Jager, DBR Chairman, Co-Founder and Driver. “That kind of consistency deserves recognition. We considered giving him more conventional responsibilities, but fortunately common sense prevailed.”
As Chief Mischief Officer, Jagger’s expanded remit will include:
- Maintaining team morale, whether required or not.
- Attending important meetings without preparation.
- Inspecting race equipment he does not understand.
- Maintaining a visible presence in the garage while contributing little to vehicle performance.
- Creating low-level disruption at strategically appropriate moments.
- Providing independent oversight of all seedless grape supplies.
- Protecting DBR against the dangerous possibility of taking itself too seriously.
Despite the promotion, DBR stressed that Jagger will retain all mascot duties, including appearances at races, team events, sponsor activities and content shoots.
“Every serious racing organization needs clear accountability,” said Alan VanderMolen, DBR Co-Founder and Driver. “Jagger is now officially accountable for the mischief. As his roommate, I can confirm he has been preparing for this position around the clock.”
DBR Team Manager Andy Boux welcomed the appointment while acknowledging the potential operational implications.
“My job is to make the team faster, more disciplined and better prepared,” Boux said. “Jagger’s job appears to be almost exactly the opposite. We’ll see how that works.”
Jagger issued a brief statement through the team:
“The title is overdue. The grapes are not.”
The promotion comes as Dutch Brothers Racing continues preparations for its first race at Yas Marina Circuit, building a team around the principles of performance, precision and the questionable judgment required to start racing later in life.
Jagger will report directly to nobody.
